The ‘Fourrmula’ definition of Industrialisation is – ‘To ensure the design is optimised for production methods to give the lowest possible unit cost in production’. Industrialisation therefore includes DFMA (Design for Manufacture and Assembly), fixtures, specialised test equipment, works instructions, processes, in house/external manufacturing decisions. All these need to be established as a package, to calculate unit cost, BEFORE production manufacturing commences.
